Trees Planted in the Park

Planting Trees in Our Park

It takes some heavy equipment and quite a few hard working folks to plant large trees. On Thusday, July 15 two big beautiful trees were planted in the Warren G. Lineberry Memorial Park in the center of the Town of Floyd.

Willow Springs Nursery was very generous to donate the trees and deliver them to the park. A Pin Oak and a Maple tree will give us nice shade, are sturdy and will be beautiful for many years to come. Beegle Landscaping brought equipment and men to dig the holes, plant and stabilize. Volunteers will keep the trees watered to establish roots over the hot summer.

The Partnership for Floyd has been working hard to raise money to improve the Park. The Town of Floyd has also set aside funds for this purpose. We will begin building a patio and a small picnic shelter this Fall so that more people will be able to enjoy the park on a daily basis.

Future plans include a permanent amphitheater in the park to be used for music, theater, craft shows, picnics and lots of other activities. A children's play area is also hoped for.

The Partnership For Floyd will continue to raise money for these projects to improve the Park so that everyone in the county as well as friends and visitors can enjoy a beautiful space in the center of Town.

Latest Park Plans

Some Floyd County residents and members of the Partnership for Floyd have been hard at work getting plans together for the Warren G. Lineberry Memorial Park. Here are some of our latest ideas.
We would like to build a patio at the entrance, several music/picnic shelters, an amphitheater, walkways and gardens.

Floyd Town Jubilee - A Terrific Success!!!

The Partnership for Floyd has declared the Jubilee a resounding success!! We have made over $1000 in donations and proceeds from music sales. But most important of all, our new Warren G. Lineberry Memorial Park was filled with fun and laughter; dancing, playing and wonderful music all day long!

We are so very thankful for the Jubilee organizers, all bands who played for us and for the Businesses who supported the event. We were blessed with a beautiful day after weeks of rain that grew our grass.

We still have much to do in the park to plant trees, build patios, walkways and an amphitheater. We are hoping that local businesses will help to build these things by donating and showcasing their work in the park.

Our next step is to have an engineering study done for water management and other logistical issues as we begin to gather more plans for our first patio.

The Warren G. Lineberry Memorial Park in our special town of Floyd has begun its life filled with music and smiles, lauging and playing, sunshine and song, babies to grannies. What could be better?

Benefit Concert a Resounding Success!!!

The Bluegrass Benefit Concert held on Saturday, May 23 for the Warren G. Lineberry Memorial Park brought in hundreds of guests and thousands of dollars to help build our town park. Everyone had a wonderful time listening to our four local bands who generously offered their outstanding talents. Here are some of the photos. Special thanks to the bands, to Betty and Grey Lineberry, to all the members of Partnership For Floyd and to all of our terrific Floydians who came out to support the park.

Working on the Warren G. Lineberry Memorial Park

Work has begun in earnest!
The brush & briars have been cut from the edges. The huge pile of dirt has been moved into low areas to level the land. Rocks and debris have been raked away by hand and tractor. Seed, fertilizer and hay has been sown.
All of this work has been done with volunteer labor, donations from the community and some money from the Floyd town council. Special thanks to Grey Lineberry (son of the park namesake) who has brought his own tractor and equipment and worked in freezing rain to get the park going. Also thanks to Mike Maslaney who is always hard at work to do what it takes.
